Error Message
“Windows cannot identify all the resources this device uses. To specify additional resources for this device, click the Resources tab and fill in the missing settings. Check your hardware documentation to find out what settings to use. (Code 16)”
Reason
This error code appears when the device is only partly configured and might require extra manual configuration of the resources the device needs.
How to Fix?
Apply the below given steps to fix device manager error CODE 16, but the given steps will only work if the device is a Plug and Play device..
- Go to the Start and type device manager and choose Device Manager from the results.
- Now, double-click on the device in the list, and select the Resources
- In the Resource Settings list, find if there is a question mark present next to a resource. If so, choose that resource, and assign it to the device.
- If a resource cannot be modified, click on the Change Settings. If Change Settings is unavailable, try to clear the Use automatic settings check box to make it available.
CODE 17
Reason
The main reason behind this error code is the .inf file for the device is providing invalid information on how to divide the device’s resources to the child devices.
How to Fix?
In order to fix this error code, go to the Device Manager and remove the device, after it run the Add New Hardware tool in Control Panel.
CODE18
How to Fix?
Uninstall and Reinstall the Device Driver via Hardware Update Wizard
- Go to the Start menu and search forthe device manager and choose Device Manager from the results.
- Right-click on the device in the list.
- Select Update Driverto start the Hardware Update wizard.
Uninstall and Reinstall the Device Driver Manually
- Search fordevice manager and choose the Device Manager from the results.
- Right-click on the device in the list and choose Uninstall.
- After uninstalling the device select Actionon the menu bar.
- Choose the Scan for hardware changesto reinstall the driver.
CODE 19
Error Message
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
How to Fix?
Uninstall and Reinstall the Device Driver Manually
- Search fordevice manager and choose the Device Manager from the results.
- Right-click on the device in the list and choose Uninstall.
- After uninstalling the device select Actionon the menu bar.
- Choose the Scan for hardware changesto reinstall the driver.
CODE 20
System Failure – VxDLdr Returned Unknown Result
This error code appears when VxD Loader (Vxdldr) returns an unknown result. For example: there could a version difference between the device driver and the operating system driver.
How to Fix?
In order to fix the outdated or corrupt driver, use a professional driver repair tool. You can also do this thing direct from the control panel but it is little lengthy.
Code 21
Error Message
Windows is removing this device. (Code 21)
Cause
The main cause of this error code is the process of removing the device. This error code is not permanent, and appears only while it attempts to query and then remove a device.
How to Fix?
Restart the computer:
Either wait for the several seconds and then press the F5 key to update the Device Manager view.
Or, reboot your computer. Click on the Start -> click Shut Down, and then select Restart in the Shut Down Windows dialog box to reboot the computer.
Code 22
Error Message
“This device is disabled. (Code 22)”
Reason
The device was turned off by the user in Device Manager.
How to Fix?
At the Device Manager, click on the Action, and then click on the Enable Device.
This will start the Enable Device wizard and simply follow the instructions.
CODE 23
Error Message
Device Failure – Devloader was not ready
How to Fix?
Make sure that your system has the latest driver for your device.
You can also fix this issue this issue by removing the device in Device Manager and going through the Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel.
CODE 24
Error
This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)
Reason
- Improperly installed device
- Hardware failure
- Driver issue
How to Fix?
Remove the faulty device and update system drivers.
CODE 25
Restart the system at least two times, if the error still unsolved then you need to reinstall the Windows.
CODE 26
Reason:
Device Failure
How to Fix?
First reboot the system or laptop and check that the problem is fixed or not.
If not then make sure that the drivers are updated. Sometime, this issue may also be fixed by removing the faulty device in Device Manager and add them again through the Add New Hardware Wizard in Control Panel.
CODE 27
Error Message
Device failure – No Valid Log configuration
How to Fix?
This error code means that the part of the Registry relating possible resources for a device doesn’t contain valid entries.
To fix this error code, go to the Device Manager and remove the device then run the Add New Hardware tool in Control Panel.
Code 28
Error Message
“The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)”
How to Fix?
Reinstall the Device Driver Manually
- Open the device manager, search for device manager and choose Device Manager from the results.
- Right-click on the device in the list.
- Select Uninstall from the menu that appears.
- Once the device is uninstalled, select Action on the menu bar.
- Choose Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.
Code 29
Error Message
This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources. (Code 29)
How to Fix?
Turn on the device in the BIOS of the device. Make sure that the device is not disabled through BIOS. It happens when Windows gets unable to override settings in the BIOS.
Code 30
Error Message
Cant Share IRQ
How to Fix?
The reason behind this error is, PCI/EISA SCSI controller is sharing an IRQ that for using by a real-mode device driver set not to be overwritten. So you need to remove the real mode driver which is using the same IRQ as the device from the config.sys or autoexec.bat.
